On Thursday, 7th March, we celebrated World Book Day. Well done to all who dressed up. It was a great day!

On Friday, March 1st, we held our Wellbeing Day in aid of Pieta House. It was a very enjoyable day for pupils and staff alike. Pupils participated in lots of activities on the day such as yoga sessions, art activities, games and class-based discussions about various aspects of wellbeing such as self-affirmation and mindfulness. Thank you to all who donated. We raised a total of € 585!

Thank you to Paula O'Connor from "Don't be mean behind your screen" who facilitated a workshop for our sixth classs pupils about Online Safety. Paula spoke about gaming, cybersafety and creating a digital footprint. Our pupils really enjoyed the workshop and found it very informative.

This week we celebrated Anti-Bullying Week in St. Michael's. All week, the student councill were making announcements on the intercom about the pupils' activities. Pupils watched videos, participated in anti-bullying discussions, completed art activities and played games.

We finished the week off with an anti-bullying themed assembly. In this assembly, Ms. Metcalfe's 2nd class pupils said a rap, recited a poem and gave really good advice to their peers about what to do if they experience bullying in any form. Our 6th class pupils also recited a poem. All winners of the anti-bullying poster competition presented their winning posters and explained the messages their posters portrayed. It was a very informative assembly, enjoyed by all:

The sixth class pupils received their Class of 2024 hoodies this week. They are wearing them on PE days with great pride:

This week in St. Michael's, we celebrated Catholic Schools Week. The pupils participated in activities each day based on the following themes:

Service in Our Community of Friends

Service in Our School Community

Service in Our Family Community

Service in Our Local Community

Service in Our Faith Community

As part of our Catholic Schools Week assembly, Ms. Ibs' 5th class pupils read out the prayers that they wrote during the week and the whole school sang two songs together, 'We Sing a Song to Brigid' and 'Thank You My Lord'. 

  

 

On Tuesday, 23rd January, and Wednesday, 24th January, we held a Grandparents' Day in the school, as part of the Service in Our Family Community theme. Some pupils' grandparents visited the school and their grandchild's classroom. They chatted with the class and had a cup of tea and a sweet treat with the pupils. It was a lovely morning, enjoyed by all. We would like to greatly thank all the grandparents who took the time out of their day to participate in this. 

 

We were very proud of the sixth class pupils today on making their Confirmation in St. Patrick's Church. They represented the school so well and with utmost integrity. Well done boys!

Santa visited the special classes and the second classes on Thursday, 21st December. The pupils were so excited for his arrival. He certainly brought festive cheer as he rang his bell through the corridors of St. Michael's!

 

  

 

Well done to Ms. Mullen's 4th class who performed at our last school assembly of 2023 singing 'Merry Christmas' by Elton John and Ed Sheeran.

Carol Service

Well done to all involved in our Christmas Carol Service which took place in St. Patrick’s Church on Wednesday, December 20th. Our very talented school choir and musicians performed a wide repertoire of Christmas carols, many in two part harmony. Readings and prayers were delivered with great precision and fluency! Thanks to all who supported our collection for “Trim Meals on Wheels” on the night. A total of €750 was raised. It was a very memorable and proud occasion for St. Michael’s and certainly spread a lot of festive cheer.

Christmas Jumper Day

On Friday, 15th December, we held our Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Meath Foodbank Collection. €385  was raised on the day. Thank you to all who donated!

 

 

 

 

 

On Monday, 11th December, pupils participated in the start of our Money Savers Club in St. Michael's. Sharon Skerritt, from Drogheda Credit Union, co-ordinated this and will continue to do so every month for the rest of the year and onwards. Well done to the pupils who have taken part and other pupils are encouraged to do the same!

Our sixth class pupils visited Dublin castle today. In addition to Trim Castle, Hugh De Lacy was also involved in the construction of Dublin Castle. Staff and pupils really enjoyed the visit!

On Friday, 17th November, St. Michael's celebrated everything science. We held a Science Day to celebrate Science Week. Pupils completed experiments, watched videos, participated in a science table quiz and did science themed art. It was a very fub day for all!

We are delighted to be one of the lucky schools chosen to work with STEAM Meath in partnership with Meta. Steam Meath is a fully funded STEAM programme for primary and secondary schools in Meath. The programme will run for 3 years. We are  looking forward to igniting student's creativity using Lego and coding withinn the classroom!

We hosted our Erasmus Week 2023 this week. Our guests were treated to a warm welcome by our pupils and staff. Everyone really enjoyed having our visiting teachers in the school and showing them life in St. Michael's. The visiting teachers, from Iceland, Lithuania, Reunion Island and Italy, visited Trim Castle, Carton House, The Japanese Gardens, Bunratty Castle, The Cliffs of Moher and The Hill of Tara. They also engaged in activities with the pupils, educational workshops and they participated in whole school assemblies. We would like to thank everyone for making it such a special week for all!

 

 

Ms. Tersigni's fifth class visited the library and the Swift Cultural Centre on Thursday, 12th October, to see 'Candlelit Tales' as part of the Children's Book Festival:

Today we held our first WOW (Walk on Wednesday) Day. The pupils met in front of Trim Castle at 08:45 and walked to school together along with teachers. Pupils received a homework pass and a treat when they arrived at the school. Well done to all who participated!

We held our annual school Marathon Relay Fundraiser on Thursday,  April 20th  at 10:00am.The School Marathon Relay is a fun and inclusive event for all children in our school and all money raised will go towards our fund for an all weather pitch. All pupils ran the distance of a marathon, 42km, in relay format, with each pupil running/walking a minimum of 100m.  Many thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Seachtain na Gaeilge, which we celebrated from March 13th - 17th, was a huge success again this year. The pupils participated in a range of activities to celebrate our traditions, culture and native language.

Well done to all the pupils who won  Gaeilgóirí na Seachtaine, Tráth na gCeist,  Píosa Scríobhneoireachta agus Píosa Ealaíne.

The week culminated with Lá Glas and a special assembly on Thursday, March 16h. Pupils from Mr. Joyce’s class sang “Ireland’s Call”. Pupil’s from Ms. Metcalfe’s recited the poem “Bogha Baistí”. All pupils sang “Geronimo” as gaeilge.  Bhaineamar go léir an-taitneamh as “Seachtain na Gaeilge”. Comhghairdeas dó chách!

This week was Catholic Schools Week. All classes participated in a whole school assembly to mark the occasion. A big thank you to Ms Metcalfe’s and Ms Fitzpatrick’s classes who led the school singing as part of their assembly performance.

 

 

Congratulations to all of the pupils who received the sacrament of Confirmation on Friday, January 27th. Thank you to Bishop Deenihan and Bishop Smith who conferred the Holy Spirit on the children. Thank you to all the teachers for preparing their pupils so well for this very special day.

Santa Claus ,once again, visited the children in the special classes at St. Michael's on the 20th of December 2022. He arrived in a car as his reindeers were resting up before their long journey on Christmas Eve. He rang his bell loudly and was in fine spirits. It was heartening to know that the children were all on the 'GOOD' list! They received their presents happily and a magical time was had by all! 

 

 

 

Santa Dash

As part of our active schools programme, all pupils participated in the Santa Dash on Tuesday, December 20th. Pupils donned their festive clothing. It was an enjoyable experience for all and put us all in the Christmas spirit! Thanks to Ms. Gibbons for organising this event.

On Thursday, November 10th, sixth class pupils visited the home of Gaelic games, Croke Park. The boys participated in the Ericsson Skyline Tour which brought them up 17 storeys high onto the roof. The weather was perfect and allowed the boys to get a clear view of the goings-on below them in the city. They also took in the view from the platform that is suspended over the Croke Park pitch itself!! After the rooftop tour, the boys visited the interactive games zone and they concluded the day with a trip to the Food Court in Liffey Valley. It was a wonderful day, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
